Want to practice yoga at the farm?
Beginning in 2027
In addition to running the farm, I am a certified yoga instructor. My personal practice is at the center of everything that happens on the farm.
If all you can picture when you hear the word ‘yoga’ is a room full of people standing on one leg, then you’re seeing just one part of a much larger story. Yoga is a vast landscape of teachings and techniques that help us understand who we really are.
If you’re curious about yoga, where it comes from, or the many ways to practice, reach out and let’s chat. I teach a number of different styles so we can discover where your needs and interests lie.
What I Teach
Basics
Beginning a physical yoga practice can feel intimidating. One-on-one instruction can help, as we’ll be able to build each pose from the ground up slowly and safely. After just a few sessions, you’ll feel more confident taking classes at a studio, practicing on your own, or (hopefully) continuing to practice with me.
Vinyasa
Vinyasa is a vigorous, flowing practice where attention and awareness are present in each movement and every breath. For students that have some experience and like to move, I can build 60 or 75 minute vinyasa sequences that address your specific needs, goals, strengths, and weaknesses.
Restorative
With the help of props like bolsters and blankets, we’ll set the body up in fully supported postures that encourage it to release tension. As the body softens, the breathing slows, and the body’s nervous system gets a chance to relax. This practice should not be underestimated. While simple, it can be incredibly powerful and healing.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a relaxation technique where students enter a state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep. I’ll guide you through a series of visualizations meant to help you access parts of your subconscious mind. It is deeply restful, occasionally profound, and I’m told often benefits people in creative professions.
Meditation
For many, the goal and practice of yoga is the stilling of the mind. There are many types of meditation, and my belief is that the best style is the one that works for the person practicing. I can help you find what works, and we can sit and grow in consciousness together amidst the farm’s beautiful harmony.
History and Philosophy
What is yoga and where did it come from? What’s the point of the poses, why is breathing so important, and what does any of this have to do with meditation? While there are many different paths, at the heart of yoga is the journey each of us takes back to our truest self. I love nothing more than helping newer students get their bearings in this practice that I love.
Practice Spaces
The spaces we spend time in have the ability to shape how we experience the world. One of my greatest hopes in building the farm is to create a place that feels both comfortable and sacred, familiar and full of mystery, all at once. In this environment, our minds have the ability to stretch in ways they otherwise could not. The farm is full of life, beauty, and harmony. As we seek through practice to discover or create a greater sense of inner harmony, it is helpful to be in an environment that resonates.
The porch overlooks the vegetable fields and feels cozy, protected, and intimate. Excellent for meditation, yoga nidra, and especially restorative yoga.
The Porch
This area brings you closest to the vegetable fields at the heart of the farm. Practicing outside with no ceiling and no walls can feel freeing and invigorating, especially in the morning.
The Field
Practicing in the Light House (what I’ve coined the farm’s greenhouse) feels warm, rich, and nourishing, especially on a cold day in fall or a breezy summer night.
